L3Harris AN/PVS-31A Night Vision Goggles

The L3Harris AN/PVS-31A is an ultra-lightweight binocular night vision goggle (BNVG) designed in collaboration with USSOCOM to replace the PVS-15. This advanced unit features an articulating housing, manual gain control, a detachable battery pack, and high-resolution image intensifier tubes for superior low-light performance.

Power Options & Battery Pack Features

The PVS-31A can operate using either an onboard AA battery or the included external battery pack. Thanks to its lightweight design, users do not require a counterweight—simply using the battery pack provides optimal helmet balance.

Key battery pack features include:

• Integrated IR Strobe for signaling and aerial identification
• Single-switch operation for quick activation
• Rapid deployment—users can attach the system to a Wilcox G24 mount, connect the battery cable, and be mission-ready in seconds

Articulating Housing & Optical Pod Design

The AN/PVS-31A features an articulating housing with independently rotating optical pods, allowing for:

• Dual or single-tube deployment, useful for integrating thermal devices
• Streamlined stowage without flipping the goggles upward, reducing snag hazards and helmet height

Tube Specifications

The AN/PVS-31A is equipped with L3Harris Unfilmed White Phosphor autogated image intensifier tubes, delivering exceptional clarity, enhanced depth perception, and superior performance in both low-light and high-light conditions.

Standard Mil-Spec Tubes (2376 Min FOM)

• FOM: 2376 minimum
• Spot Spec: Maximum of four spots per tube larger than 0.003", with no spots in Zone 1
• Small spots (≤0.003") are acceptable
• Ships standard from L3Harris

Aviation-Grade Tubes (2376 Min FOM)

• FOM: 2376 minimum
• Stricter spot spec: Max three spots per tube (≥0.003") in Zone 3, with no spots in Zone 1 or 2
• Hand-selected for tighter quality control
• Additional lead time (30-60 days) due to stricter selection criteria

While all PVS-31A units feature exceptional image quality, minor spots are inherent to all night vision tubes. The Aviation-Grade option is ideal for those who demand stricter quality assurance, though small spots (≤0.003") may still be present.
